Historical Young County Obituary Records

Young County death records from the early 1900s document the ranching and farming families who settled the Clear Fork country after the frontier era ended. Fort Belknap was established in 1851 as one of a chain of forts protecting the Texas frontier, and the county was organized in 1856. The area was on the edge of Comanche territory until the mid-1870s, and settlement was sparse until peace was established. Once the frontier closed, ranchers and farmers moved in quickly. The oil discovery of the early 20th century added workers and changed the economy. The Texas State Library holds microfilm of early county vital records. FamilySearch has indexed Texas death collections with Young County entries.
