Historical Randall County Obituary Records

Randall County death records from the early 1900s reflect the settlement of the Texas High Plains after the open range era ended. The county was organized in 1889, and early settlers came largely from the Midwest seeking farmland on the Llano Estacado. Palo Duro Canyon, carved by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River, was the site of the 1874 Battle of Palo Duro Canyon, which effectively ended Comanche resistance in the Panhandle. Canyon grew as an agricultural supply town and later as a university town. Early records document farming families who built lives on the Plains. The Texas State Library holds microfilm of early county vital records. FamilySearch has indexed Texas death collections with Randall County entries.

The Texas DSHS Vital Statistics Section maintains the statewide death record index that includes Randall County entries from 1903 to the present.
